Looking for an organized running race to try and set a new PB? Or maybe you enjoy the feeling of being part of a larger community trying to push their limits and enjoy movement. Or perhaps you’re looking to be part of an event that gives back to the community while burning some energy. Whatever your purpose, we have you covered. Below, you’ll find a list of running races/events from across Canada with distances ranging from short 3-5km to ultramarathons. We’ll add to this list over time as we find new races and as new events get established. If you know of one that isn’t on the list, let us know!

5 Peaks - Bowmont

5 Peaks - Chickakoo

Chickakoo Lake

“The fourth race of the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series in Northern Alberta is run at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area, in Parkland County approximately 30 minutes west of Edmonton. Chickakoo offers 480 acres of scenic mix of woods and lakes that attracts a diversity of birds and other wildlife such as moose, deer, beavers, and more. It is a popular destination for runners, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders in summer and is groomed for cross country skiers in winter. The race route is known for grinding hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and fast hard pack sections. Distances for all ages, abilities, and ambitions.”

Devon

“Located just 30 minutes south of Edmonton, the Town of Devon, is home to fantastic river valley trails - both single track and hard pack, and beautiful autumn river valley colours. Runners, hikers, cyclists, and campers all enjoy Devon’s river valley and the start/finish at the Devon Lions Campground is the perfect spot to enjoy a warm post-race camp fire. 5 Peaks - Gold Bar

Edmonton

“The third race of the 5 Peaks Northern Alberta Trail Running Series is located in Edmonton’s Gold Bar Park. Located along the North Saskatchewan River, Gold Bar Park is home to hard pack trails, technical singletrack, and the infamous Esso Hill. Enjoyed by Edmontonians in both summer and winter, the park is a gathering place for all who love the river valley. Distances for all ages, abilities, and ambitions.”

“Join us at the popular Terwillegar Park for the first race in the 5 Peaks Northern Alberta Trail Running Series. With over 186 hectares of rugged terrain located in Southwest Edmonton, the 5 Peaks course loops hills, single track, and mud giving participants a fantastic trail running experience in the heart of Edmonton’s river valley. The trail running community looks forward to this event to reconnect with their friends after a cold winter and enjoy the warmth of the spring sunshine. “Located in Whitemud Park in the heart of Edmonton’s river valley, this event is one of the most challenging courses of the series offering hard pack, bridge crossings, fast singletrack, and a downhill run to the finish. This area is a local favourite for hill training and stair climbing and is a popular meeting spot for many local run groups. Held in early June, race day is typically warm and sunny. Run in the Rockies

Hinton

“Spectacular and challenging Half Marathon, 10km, 5km through the trails of the Hinton Nordic Centre.

Run on wide, rolling grass trails through forest. Pass scenic lookouts on the 10k and the Half Marathon courses. The half marathon in particular has significant, very challenging elevation gain. Each distance ends with a dramatic finishing stretch toward the main Hinton Nordic Centre lodge.”

Survivor Fest

Sherwood Park

“Survivorfest is a community celebration on an international scale! Each year athletes from around the world come together in Strathcona County to test their endurance and grit during our 6h, 12h, and 24-hour running event!

Over the course of 24 hours, athletes will loop the running track in an effort to set records, qualify for their national 24-hour running teams, or to simply have a great time in an effort to support an amazing cause! (That’s right – some of our athletes will be running continuously for 24 hours!)

During our event, families, friends, spectators, andparticipants are encouraged to cheer on our athletes, enjoy on-site food trucks, live entertainment, art displays, and more!”

“Held on the last weekend of September, this beautiful course showcases the autumn colors of the Weaselhead Flats located in southwest Calgary. This 237 hectare park is home to wildlife, plantlife, and hard pack as well as singletrack trails. Connected to the Glenmore Reservoir trail system, participants enjoy a variety of terrain along the course. The Glenmore Reservoir trail system and Weaselhead Flats are both popular meeting spots for community hiking, running, and cycling groups. Distances for all ages, abilities, and ambitions.”

5 Peaks - Golden Ears

Maple Ridge

“As one of the largest parks in the province, Golden Ears Park is prized for its recreational opportunities. The extensive system of trails within the park provides an excellent opportunity for hiking and horseback riding, and of course, trail running with over 555 square kilometres to explore.
